glamour and glitz, everything untrue, everything sweet.

been so busy from day to night these few days! full days and nights for the rest of the week!

was wondering if i should go to the Kazakh independance day today, cos i was pretty tired, and wondering if i should go home and sleep early. but well, i had fun last year, and i love nice food, so i went (:

and yessss i didn't regret going AT ALL!! :D

it was awesome fun, and i met lots of cute guys (;

guys have it easy asking for numbers at such functions, because its all a diplomatic exchange :p

hmm, i was very sneaky in taking photos, cos its such dignified company, i feel very immature to be taking photos, so i didnt get any good shots. ):

drinks before dinner (:

anyway, the food is always too atas at such functions. caviar, foie gras, truffles etc. but i don't like those, hahaha so i ate mushrooms, asparagus wrapped with ham and other yummy stuff.

and i ate 10000 chocolate tarts. they were so good! my gymming this week is of no use now. and i risked reputation to sneak 3 into my clutch to take home to the little sis. hahah

i love the dreamy fantasy of these functions

chandeliers dripping with crystals, and the whole ballroom dimly lit. flowers everywhere, and ice piece in the centre of the room, a harpist playing music, waiters and waitresses carrying trays of wines and juices to serve, tables laden with canapes and other delectable treats...

the ladies in pretty dresses, all demure and sweet, with perfectly coiffed hair and make up, and always smiling, always dainty and delicate in manner no matter their age...

where the guys are all impeccably well mannered, polished, and super gentlemanly and dignified. I guess it's cos of they're all young diplomats.

like, it's all very traditional, and its all about mingling through the crowd. and someone would come up, and make small talk, and he'd ask if i care for dessert, he'd escort me there, and help me with plates etc.

so nice (: but then, the annoying social geographer in me would spoil these wonderful fantasies by making me ask myself critical questions like whether it's the place that creates the behaviour, or the behaviour creating the atmosphere.

but because im having such a nice time, i'd tell my inner geographer to keep quiet. (:

OH AND I LEVELLED UP TODAY. (:

usually at these glitzy functions, there'll be press and media present to take pictures etc.

and of all the functions i've attended, i've never been in these photos (except one that my dad dragged me into), cos im obviously not an important person. they wanna take pictures of ambassadors, guests of honour etc.

but today one of the peak magazine photographers asked to photograph me and a young MFA officer together (:

*cough

my annoying sister here asked me : Wah, they got no one better to take photos of ah.

but anyway, i was still very pleased with my performance today (:

the first few times i went to such functions, i was so scared and shy and wouldn't say much, but now my dad can leave me alone for majority of the evening and i can still hold my own in the crowd (:

*except, i met the australian ambassador and i didnt realise who he was :/ thank goodness he and his wife are so sweet and friendly, and they were lovely to chat with.

i think i am getting better with these things (: and now i kinda roughly know who's who, so awkward realizations like the above are getting fewer. it's awkward, cos if they're ambassadors, you're supposed to greet them with 'your excellency'.

lol. it's full of protocol, and knowing who's who.

it's stressful, but it's cool (:

and oh, we met a reallyyyy cool astronaut today, who spent a year in space!!!

okkk im super tired, got to do fieldwork for my prof tmr!

nights!

loveee! <3
